Indian Masala ButterMilk Recipe | Summer Recipes | Majjiege

                Masala Butter Milk - a very easy Indian style thirst quencher.It's called by various names 'majjige' in Kannada,'neer mor' in Tamil,'Chaas' in Hindi and 'Sambaram' in Malayalam. Like the names, the ingredients added will differ from state to state but the Star Ingredient  remains the same.

         Summer in India is becoming never ending. The peak summer season is in May. It's a holiday season Kids sued to play in the scorching sun.To keep them cool and hydrated we can offer something like LemonadePumpkin Buttermilk. But NowaDays people prepare it considering it health benefits.

       It's a tradition in south India to consume yogurt or buttermilk after a meal to soothe the stomach.The bacteria in yogurt will help in digestion. Having chaas instead of yogurt has some additional health benefits.Check it out.

Step by Step Picture recipe for making masala mor:
  • Wash coriander, curry leaves, green chili, and ginger.
  • Cut shallots and grind it along with other ingredients to a coarse paste.
  • Add yogurt to a big deep bowl and churn it with buttermilk beater(I used a traditional wooden beater. You can use a stainless steel one or give a pulse in your blender).Add salt and required water to the bowl.Mix salt using a spoon or use a cup to transfer between the bowl and cup.This will help the salt mixed with water.Add the ground ingredients to the bowl and give a mix again.

  • Finally, squeeze the lemon juice.You can skip this step if you have a very sour yogurt.

  • Simple and refreshing Majige is ready.You can add some ice cubes if you want it really cold.

                                          How to make Indian Style Masala Buttermilk

Ingredients:
  • 6 tbsp yogurt/Mor.
  • 2 1/2 cups water.
  • 1 tsp salt.
  • 1 /2  lemon juice/nimbu(optional).
To grind:
  • 4 -5 sprigs of coriander leaves/Kothamalli.
  • 4-5 curry leaves/karivepilai.
  • 1 small ginger piece/Inji.
  • 1 green chili/Pacha milagai.
  • 1 small shallot or 1-2 pieces of red onion/vengayam.
Method:

Note:
  • If you don't have homemade yogurt you can make with store bought.
  • You can skip lemon juice if you have a sour curd.
  • Add less salt for high BP patients.
  • Adding onion will make the drink colorful and more cooling.Skip if you don't like.To avoid the raw smell don't grind the onions.Chop and add as is.
  • Can add roasted jeera powder for a different flavor.
  • Add ice cubes to make it more cold.
