Karachi Halwa | Corn Flour Halwa | Diwali Sweet Recipes

Corn flour halwa: a easy sweet recipe made with very less ingredients.Preparing for a festival mean- sweets and it plays a most important role.Yes !! no Diwali, birthday, navrathri, vinayaga chathurthi is without sweets.I prefer doing bread halwa or kashi halwa for diwali - one of the most easiest for me.(I never made shapes out of any halwa, this is the first time).

Getting the halwa consistency is what i fear about most of the time, being the most important thing to prepare. To better get off the fear,i prefer using a non -stick pan most of the time.If you don't have non-stick pan while preparing, you have to wait until everything(sugar, flour) comes together/ sticky , also you can't  stir it anymore. You can try taking little halwa and put it to a plate. If you can take it without sticking, then that's the right consistency.

What type of  flour to use : white or yellow?  Basically there is no difference between yellow /white ones .Its just the type of corn kernel they are milled from.Yellow being the sweetest  has a strong flavor, while white has a mild flavor and is less sweeter.Yellow one has more vitamin a and b compared to white.Use corn starch to get the perfect halwa.Flour will give a sticky output.
If you prefer a rich  dessert add more ghee in frequent intervals.

   Tips:
  •  If you add brown sugar the color of the halwa will be more deeper
  • When you prepare this with Yellow corn flour.Halwa will have the taste of corn flour.
  • Add color of your choice while making.I added orange.
  • You can add 2 cups of sugar instead of 1 1/2 cups to a more sweeter version.
  • Consume this with in 2-3 days while keeping at room temperature.

  • After 10-15 minutes when it's thick ,you can add cardamom powder and ghee. When you keep stirring the sweet it won't stick to the pan anymore, also there will be glossiness on the top.Add fried cashew as well.Pour in the mixture to already greased plate and smooth the top surface.
