Kosambari is an Indian style moong dal salad prepared especially in the state of Karnataka in Udupi and North Karnataka cuisine. This is a raw salad which is served as an appetizer just before the meal. In every occasion, be it dusshera, Ganesh Chaturthi, Ugadi, Makara Sankranthi,Ram Navami there is an important place for this Hesaru Bele kosambari. Just Like In Chettinad, Urad dal vada is being prepared every occasion.
There are two different types of dal used one is moong and other is chana. I very well know about moong dal kosambari but was not aware of chana type until a few days ago when I was asking for the recipe. Different combination of ingredients are used, from carrot, cucumber, coriander leaves, coconut etc. But the main ingredients being dal, chili, lemon juice and tempering with mustard is common for all.
I love salad. They are simply easy and great on anyone's diet. Good for everybody, from kids to adults and also for those who are on a diet. Some of them are protein rich like cucumber kidney bean, Sprouts and some being prepared with freshest ingredients only with fruits and vegetables. So in the Summer to get away from the stove heat, prepare and serve your family this simple and very healthy salad as a snack, lunch for your family members.Keep me posted about your version of any protein-rich salad.
