Sweet Ragi Malt Recipe | Finger Millet Porridge With Instant Powder

Ragi malt is a nutritious drink prepared with gluten free finger millet. Flour is prepared by Washing, soaking, cleaning, drying keppai for a day or two then, ground in mills to a fine powder along with some nuts and some spice like cardamom. This is easily digestible than the whole grain  because it is in powder form. People living abroad has no benefits of this finely home prepared powders and has to rely on the products they get in local Indian markets/shop.Use whichever type is accessible to you.

I already shared millet benefits. If you are not taking  millets in your regular diet try to include them slowly, like we feed to infants and babies .Look out for how well you digest/your system accepts. While taking it as a  regular food observe whether it produces heat, digest well accordingly reduce solid food intake and take more water or drinks than usual.
Actually, my mom prepares sathumaavu paal in a similar way. It's a mix of dal, millets like corn, jowar and has rice and some nuts like badam, cashews. I have no stock  as of now, so I was looking for a healthy drink for my kid. That's how I started preparing this one regularly. Also, I used to feed my kid a thick version of this without nuts, when she was 6 months.

What are the benefits of ragi:
  • Has a good amount of calcium and controls diabetics.
  • It's actually gluten free. So everybody can have a take on this one.
  • It can be fed to babies more than 6 months for a stronger bone. This is the age where they develop the bone strength to sit, walk, crawl  etc.So try including little and in a more liquid form.
  • This daily drink will make the bone stronger even for a child of more than 2 years.
