    Ragi Murukku - a south Indian snack made with ragi/ keppai/finger millet.Murukku is every body's favorite snack back home(south India /you can say Indian) for a tea time.Adding some healthy flour like ragi ,make it more interesting and very appealing.

      I usually keep ragi flour in stock and make something like roti,idiyappam ,puttu,dosa,idli out of it considering its health benefits.Ragi is considered to be one of  the best grains to eat .If you want to know the health benefits of ragi you can read it here.
      Now a days lots of people have many diet concerns.There are gluten free ,vegan diet, diabetics people .Ragi is suitable for these various diet people.It  helps to reduce sugar level in their diet.
    Making of ragi murukku is so simple.I made ragi murukku similar to mullu murukku by adding urad Dal flour to it.People who are not eating ragi at all can't resist this murukku.Do try it and let me know.

 Cuisine: Indian  Category:Snack  Serve:around 30 chakli  Prep time:15 minutes Cook time: 30-40 minutes  Total Time:55 minutes



Ingredients:
  • 1 cup ragi flour/kepai maavu.
  • 1/2 cup rice flour/arisi maavu.
  • 1/2 cup urad dal flour.
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds/ellu.
  • 1 tbsp ghee or butter.
  • salt as required.
  • Water for kneading.
Method:
  • Mix ragi,rice flour and urad dal flour together.
  • If the flour is not soft and is grainy, sieve using fine mesh.
  • Add ghee,salt,sesame seeds and knead it thorough.

  • You can mix water little by little to make dough to a chapati dough consistency.

  • Cover and rest the dough with cloth for 10-15 minutes.
  • Separate the dough and make it to  2-3 cigar/lengthy (dough) rolls.
  • Keep a single hole star achu/press ready.

  • Heat oil when you are about to start piping the dough.
  • Make circles in a ladle/small plate and drop in the hot oil.

  • Turn it in between.You have to turn the murukku only when it has attained the shape,otherwise you will loose the shape.Wait till the bubbles subside.

  • Drain murukku in a paper towel and keep them in an airtight container.
  • Super healthy and delicious ragi murukku is ready.
