Making of vathal takes time and work. Our paatti's/grandma's used to like this process, especially kids would have fun in their summer vacation while doing so.In our house mom, grandma prepare maa vathal, kari vadam, javarisi vathal, rice vadagam what ever is required for all of us(my uncle and our house).

Most of the vadam/vathal/vadam follow the same process. After preparing the dough /batter, with the use of spoon/fingers/press make it to desired shape ,then vadagam goes sunbath/sun drying for 2-3 days. Then its preserved in a tin or any storage container.Inspite of  the long preparation ,vadam can stay year long if there is no moisture in the storage container.
Mostly my grandma make vathal and i carry it.In previous summer i prepared a little batch myself getting the recipe from  my mom.It was bit tedious for the first time. When i prepared this rice vathal  with rice flour i never felt its too complicated.Even a beginner can prepare this without any errors.
