Kathi rolls/Paneer Kathi Rolls/North Vs south Challenge
For this month on north vs south challenge minne challenged south team members with her kathi rolls .When i saw that challenge i was tempted to try it .First of all its savoury then its a paneer kathi rolls .So i was waiting to try it.I made it for a special occasion on my hus birthday.
This looks a bit of work but you can finish everything in an hour and half including the chapathis, not tough for a first timer like me making kathi rolls .Getting together all the ingredients is a bit of task .So gather the ingredients together then you can finish in no time .Thanks minni for the wonderful challenge and we enjoyed it a lot .
I didnt add black salt and sugar to salad even then it tasted awesome .I used homemade paneer which i made previous day and stored in refrigerator .For how to make the dough for kathi rolls check the posting here
Total time:1 and half hour
Serves:3

Vegetable kuruma/Vegetable stew/Nococonut kuruma
3 days ago my grandma passed away. I was in so much pain, I did not get a chance to see her one last time. This is the price people like us who live abroad have to pay . She was a kind lady and loved all her grand children. She made the most wonderful seedai (now I can't get the tastiest ,crunchy seedai recipe from her ). Because of her loss i didn't blog for almost 4 days .Coming to today post kuruma.
Kuruma is a gravy made with coconut as the base .Some people grind coconut along with fennel and spices and add it to boiled veggies. Some ppl add coconut milk. But one after a really filling full of cheese and stuff I wanted to do kuruma without the cholestrol. I meant to avoid coconut (thit is difficult for me ) I was bit hesitant to try it but the end result (kuruma) was so yummy .We had it with chappathi but you can have this for dosas for upma or with rice too. If you are making it for your rice then add little more chilies.
If you want to make coconut kuruma check here
Preparation time:10 min (streaming the veggies)

Root Vegetables Curry-Pirattal Chettinad Style
This Vegetable curry (பிரட்டல்) is made almost exclusively with root vegetables. This curry is made with Potatoes, Carrots and Beetroots. Sometimes Cauliflower and Butter Beans do get added. I never really saw butter beans here in the US, but the other day I found them in a Mexican grocery store. Its called fresh pinto beans. I brought some to make this curry.
This is any easy way to get kids to eat their vegetables. This recipe uses fennel and coconut and is rich in flavor. You will find this dish getting served in Chettinad Marriages and Functions. Here is the recipe.

Rava Kichadi-Step By Step Pics
Rava Kichadi is a very simple breakfast or dinner . When we grew up my mom used to make Rava upma when supplies were running low . I am not a big fan of Rava Upma actually. So my mom makes me something special when she prepare this rava kichadi.
After my marriage, I had a chance to taste my mother in law's Rava kichadi. It was fabulous and I have been hooked ever since. She was kind enough to share the recipe with me and also gave me a few tips to make it extra yummy. I made this for breakfast this morning and it came out good.

Vegetable Kuruma -Restaurant style
Vegetable kuruma is a famous side dish usually served with Parotta , Chappathi and Idiyappam. Vegetable Kuruma in Saravana Bhavan is one of the best that I have tasted. The first Saravana Bhavan opened in chennai is very near my husband's home. After our marriage we have had food in that branch of Sarvana Bhavan many times. Parotta Kuruma is one of the dishes we usually used to order.
I came across this recipe in Amud's blog ('cookndine') and she mentions that she actually got it from a Saravana Bhavan chef. Many people with high cholesterol avoid Kuruma because of the high coconut content, but the ground coconut paste can be added at the end of the cooking process to make it relatively healthy.
You can make this in pressure cooker to save time. Sometimes vegetables can become mushy, so I usually steam the veggies in an idly pot.
