Wheat idiyappam- a simple and easy to digest breakfast or dinner. Idiyappam is a rice noodle famous in Tamilnadu and Kerala made using murukku press and is a very favorite of my dad. Mom makes it very rare because it's a difficult task to make idiyappam with the wooden press. She instead makes ragi semiya for dinner.
Our family loves all traditional dishes including this one.So I got a stainless steel press to make the breakfast we love.I am using this press for almost 4 years. It makes my work so easy, You just keep rotating the handle and you get the idiyappam down. It's a simple machine that makes your work easier than the regular ones.

I want to make this wheat idiyappam for so long.I googled recipes before asking my mom.But in vain all are super flop. Then one day while talking, was asking mom about how to make gothumai idiyappam. She said to roast the flour then add hot water to it. She never made this and gave me a vague idea. That time too I am getting only water. So I made ragi dosa using the dough.
On one fine day Finally, I decided to try it myself. If method 1 didn't work and method 2 didn't work I have to go for Method 3, right?Roasting the flour then adding hot water is not giving a perfect output. Then I decided to cool the flour then add boiled water. To my surprise, I am getting perfect shapes.I was flying in the air and immediately thought of sharing with you all.
My needle(thin) plate got broken so I used a little thick one.So the steaming time is high.If you use a thin plate, you may need a little less time than mentioned here. But it's a never fail recipe you can trust. This recipe sure is helpful for the people who have diabetics and are not including rice in their diet.Simple, quick, no fancy ingredient and entirely different kind of breakfast can not be so comforting than this.

How to make wheat idiyappam recipe
easy south Indian breakfast recipe.
Cuisine: South Indian Category: Breakfast/Dinner Prep time:10 minutes
Cook time:15 minutes Total Time:25 minutes Serves: 1-2
- 1 cup wheat flour.
- 1/2 tsp salt.
- 1 cup hot water.
- Roast the wheat flour until a nice aroma comes.
- Cool, and add required salt to it.
- Boil water until it bubbles.
- Add water to the wheat flour and stir using a wooden ladle.
- Let's prepare the pot needed for steaming the noodles. Boil water in idli pot.grease the idli pan with oil.
- Roll the dough to cigar shape that can fit in the press.Keep the dough inside and start to press directly to the pan.You can press in a single hole if you do this you have to steam little more time than mentioned.
- Keep the idli pot covered and check after 10-12 minutes.
- Wheat idiyappam is ready to be served with your favorite side dish.Serve hot with sambar or korma.
- Use thin needle shape plate for making. This resembles rice idiyappam and has less steaming time.
- You have to serve this hot otherwise it will become very hard.See my picture you might understand.
- Cool, the flour before adding hot water. If you are in a hurry then spread the flour on a serving plate then transfer to kneading bowl.
- If you are serving to kids.Serve with coconut milk or regular milk with sugar and coconut as a topping.
- I have used store bought wheat flour for making. If you use homemade ones then the taste and texture will be different.
- I suggest you not to press the Idiyappam on one hole in the Idli pan.Sometimes the inside was not cooked properly.
