Arisi paruppu sadam is one of the authentic recipes of Coimbatore/kongu cuisine. In Tamil 'arisi' is rice and 'paruppu' refers to dal.So I call it dal rice.I wanted to try this recipe for quite some time. These Kind of the recipe will not take place in our regular menu. I will make vegetable dum biryani, paneer pulao, raw mango rice etc.If it's not regular then I can definitely do for prasad.
Regular dal rice has garlic and onion but I wanted a recipe with no onion or garlic. Then I remembered this rice recipe of padhu.I made it few times before but never tried to take the picture. This time, I made it to the blog along with step by step pictures.
This arisi paruppu sadam is made from moong dal and also without onion, garlic.Rice used here is raw rice so the cooking can be done in a jiffy. This can be perfect for any prasad. You can say it is quite like a Pongal but not mushy and also with a different tempering. In south India, Pongal is served for breakfast but this is a lunch recipe. Dal and rice combination are easily digestible to anyone so it can be fed to kids and older adults too.
Making of dal rice is very easy that makes it a perfect winter recipe. A spiced yogurt or some spicy curry can be a perfect pair for this one pot meal. When you want a special meal by then you are missing some fancy ingredients this can be a perfect comfort meal which makes your lunch very special. After eating, I too remembered Gujarati khichdi/khichdi.Make it and enjoy readers don't forget to write to me how you guys liked it.
