Experts do akki roti very thin without any cracks, but cracks will happen for any amateur cooks, even i do get cracks.I try to make small roti to avoid cracks and difficulty in spreading.
Usually karnataka rice roti's have dill leaves(i have eaten it with dill leaves only). If you like and is available to you ,be sure to add to taste authentic akki roti.I am little scared of adding chana dal because it makes holes while spreading.Try adding chana dal to small portion and try spreading the dough,if you really like the flavor.
Some of the plus of rice roti- Is very filling and is instant ,most importantly it is so delicious.Even though i cooked only few times, i got some important tips to share with you all.Source smitha's site and some more youtube video's.

Tips to get perfect akki roti:
  • If you are having banana leaf or plastic wrapper that will not go bad when turning to heat ,you can do the akki roti in leaf/wrapper - flip to tava and cook it.So you save running water to cool the bottom and your gas.
  • Cooling the bottom helps in spreading the dough without any difficulty that means when the tava is hot, the dough is not spreadable.
  • Keeping 2-3 pans for cooking saves time.If one is cold spread the dough in there,by the time other must have been cooled.
  • You can add soaked chana dal to give a little crisp in between bites.
  • You can add dill leaves and ginger, while kneading the dough.I haven't added both.
  • If your rice roti is cracking on the ends while spreading ,don't worry this will happen for amateurs, even me.
  • If you get a cracked roti its because you have flipped it before the bottom is cooked. So give time for the next roti to cook before flipping it.
I am sure with this tips you might be able to make rice roti's perfect.Lets see how i made akki roti.
