Rava Upma Recipe | South Indian Breakfast Recipes

Rava Upma - the quickest breakfast made with rava/sooji/semolina.In South India, upma/uppuma  is THE tastiest, instant breakfast/snack.When there is no idli dosa batter, upma comes in handy.Everything can be done in under 20 minutes from roasting to cooking, there is no cutting of vegetables needed, making it best for bachelors or spinsters.

I used to hate rava upma when i was kid.But manage to eat with sugar and podi. After hostel stay ,i never want to eat upma again in my life. Now a days while cooking i compare my upma with my mom's recipe,it's creamy and tasty without any sides.Upma hater(me) is in love with it now a days(he he).

I think i have already mentioned this .Rasam, sooji upma are the toughest recipes to cook for me after i got married. Now i can say i will convince anyone who don't like upma ,with my preparation.Secret of upma lies in the boiling water and exact amount of salt ("uppu" is Tamil word means salt ,that's how it got the name uppuma).

Like to add vegetables to sooji?  then try making rava khichadi.

Step by step picture recipe for making rava upma:Method:
  • Roast sooji until you get the smell the rava /rava should be slightly brown.I used regular sooji.Don't use fine sooji- upma will have lumps and won't taste good.
