Lemon Semiya -Semolina bath

Semolina (Vermicelli / Semiya ) bath is a quick and easy week day dinner or breakfast. When you want add a small twist to the vermicelli upma you can add lemon or lime flavors. I have seen this dish made in vermicilli ads. I tried this the other day and my little one liked it a lot. Here is the recipe.




Preparation Time:5 min
Cooking Time:15 min
Serves:1-2




Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Semiya/Semolina 
  • 3 cups water.
  • Salt as required.
  • 1 Medium size Onion
  • 2 green Chilies.
  • 1 Large lemon/2 1/2 tbsp lemon juice(adjust).
  • Oil for tempering.
  • A pinch of Turmeric.

To Temper:

  • 1/2 tbsp Mustard Seeds.
  • 1/2 tbsp Urad dal.
  • Few Peanuts( optional).

Method:

  • You can buy regular or roasted semolina. If you buy roasted semolina you can use it as is.
  • In case of regular semolina dry roast it for 5 mins in medium heat.
  • In a deep bottomed pan bring 3 cups of water to a boil and cook the semolina with salt.
  • Cook semolina till the water gets absorbed  and keep it aside.
  • Finely chop the onions and chilis.
  • Heat the oil and temper it with mustard seeds and urad dal.
  • Add Peanuts and roast it for 2 min.
  • Add onions and cook them until they are translucent.
  • Add green chilies and saute them for a minute.
  • Add Turmeric powder and lemon juice .
  • Let it cook for 2-3 second until the raw smell of tumeric dissipates.
  • Switch off the flame.
  • Now add the cooked semolina and toss it well .
  • Lemon semiya bath is ready to be served.




Note:
  • After cooking the vermicelli Cool them before you add lemon juice
  • When you feel that lemon juice is less it can added later also
