Broccoli is a very tasty green veggie .Its a cousin of cauliflower and purple cauliflowers .Yes Broccoli looks similiar to cauliflower in shape but taste and color is little different .Like cauliflower it has more vitamin C and consumed mainly during winter season to relieve cold because it has lots of vitamin C.Half a cup of broccoli has 52 mg of vitamin C this is what the wikipedia says .It has many immune benefits like anti bacterial,anti viral and anti cancer. It can be taken as a soup,simple pepperfry ,in fried rice or you can add to your pasta dishes as well .I buy these broccolis often and do this poriyal and pepper fry .

Ingredients:
- 15-20 broccoli heads
- 1 onion
- 1 small tomato
- 1 tsp sambhar powder
- 1 garlic
- 1 inch ginger
- salt as required
- Oil for tempering
- 1/2 tsp fennel seeds/sombu
Method:
- Cut the broccoli in to small pieces with little stem.
- Clean them and blanch in hot water for a minute to remove the impurities .
- Heat tava and add oil to it.
- Temper the oil with Fennel seeds.
- Add ginger garlic and saute for a minute .
- Add chopped onions and saute them until translucent.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook them through.
- Add sambhar powder and saute it for sometime and add little water to it.
- Let it boil for a min or two.
- Add the broccoli and cook in low fire covered for 10 minutes.
- Serve it with rice of your choice
Note:
- Don't cook broccoli for much time ,it will turn mushy .
- While selecting the broccoli look for dark green color .
- Yellowing of broccoli means its old .
- Look for some storing tips of broccoli here
- Similar method you can do for cauliflower also .
