Aval Murukku | Poha Recipes | Krishna Jayanthi Recipes

      Aval Murukku  a tasty ,melt in mouth murukku prepared with poha as the main ingredient.Aval gives the perfect texture to this chakuli and makes taste better than any savories i have ever made.I always have a love for chettinad thenkuzhal.I have tried murukku with dal,ragi ,butter.We love spicy kara sev and ribbon pakoda with a cup of tea,do you?

     Murukku is nothing but chakuli.Like any other , chakuli got lots of twist/variation from the original recipe.I tried this super crunchy melt in mouth aval murukku from a famous magazine supplementary.We guys loved it a lot.

     You can prepare all kinds of snack for this gokulashtami.Krishna loves seedai very much,every kid in our house love deep fried snacks right ? thinking of Krishna as a little kid these snacks are being prepared and offered to him on his birthday.Krishna feet is being drawn in rice paintings(kolam maavu) and snacks like seedai,murukku,sweet aval ,butter along with fruits is served to cute little Krishna on his special day.

   Do you have a love for adayar ananda bhavan butter murukku ? this chakuli resembles that.So guys who are living abroad don't have to long for tasting.Prepare yourself at home.

Step By step picture recipe for making aval murukku:
  • Roast poha for few minutes in a dry pan,pulse it in mixer to fine powder.Like wise roast green moong  and pulse it to fine powder and seive using fine sieve.Prepare roasted gram flour after grinding and sieving it.Don't need to roast this.

  • Add pepper powder,ghee,salt to the prepared flour.Add water little by little and make to a dough.Dough doesn't look smooth ? don't add more water than mentioned.

  • Divide in to 5 equal portions.Make cigars shape of dough and stuff inside press/achu.Heat oil and deep fry in batches.First few minutes the dough looks soft, then it will become firm.When the bubbling sound subside take out and drain excess oil in paper towel.

  • Store poha murukku in airtight container.

 Cuisine: Indian  Category:Snack  Yields:around 3/4 kg Prep time:20 minutes
 Cook time:1 hour Total Time:1 hour 20 minutes.
   

Ingredients:
  • 6 cups poha made in to powder.
  • 1/2 cup roasted gram flour/potukkadalai maavu.
  • 1/2 cup green moong flour/pasipayaru maavu.
  • 2 tsp ghee/butter melted.
  • 1 tsp pepper powder.
  • 3 cps water for kneading.
  • salt required.
Method:
  • Roast poha for few minutes in a dry pan,pulse it in mixer to fine powder.
  • Like wise roast green moong, pulse it to fine powder and seive using fine sieve.
  • Prepare roasted gram flour after grinding and sieving it.Don't need to roast this.
  • Add all flour to a wide bowl big enough ,while kneading.
  • Add pepper powder,ghee,salt to the flour mixture.
  • Add water little by little and make to a dough.
  • Dough doesn't look smooth even then don't add more water.
  • Divide dough to 5 equal portions.Make cigar shape and stuff inside press/achu.
  • Heat oil and deep fry the dough in batches.
  • When the bubbling sound of the oil subside ,take it out and drain excess oil in paper towel.
  • Store poha murukku in airtight container.

Tips:

  • Chakuli may look soggy for first few minutes ,it become crispier after few minutes of frying.
  • Don't add water more than the quantity mentioned.
  • Over frying makes the murukku taste bad like less frying makes it soggy.
  • If you are less oil person then stay away from this.
