Paruppu usili the tastiest south Indian curry with the protein and goodness of veggie at one go.Even though making it takes a little more time compared to other sides, you can be happy that its the best and very different one.
Some people make usili with chana dal, i make with only toor dal.Same way i make usili with beetroot and banana flower too.Usili and mor kulambhu is the best combo in the past, now and for ever.I really enjoyed making it,Guess you guys will too.

Paruppu Usili | Beans Usili
How to make beans Paruppu usiliCuisine: Indian Category:Side dish Serves:2 Prep time:30 minutes Cook time:45 minutes Total time:1 hour 15 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 cup finely chopped fresh beans.
- salt as required.
- 1/8 tsp of Turmeric powder.
- hing.
- 1/4 cup toor dal (soaked for 20-30 minutes).
- 2 red chilies.
- 1 tbsp coconut.
- 1 tbsp fennel/sombu.
- 1/2 tsp jeera.
- few fennel seeds.
- hing.
- 1 tbsp oil.
- few curry leaves.
- Soak toor dal for 20-30 minutes.Drain excess water and grind it coarse paste along with other ingredients without adding any water(skip adding coconut to grind items, if you have grated coconut).
- Chop beans fine and keep it aside.
- Mix beans and toor dal mixture, add required salt ,turmeric and hing as well.
- Use a non-stick pan to make this curry with less oil.
- Add oil to the tava and add fennel, curry leaves and hing.
- Add the usili mixture to tava and cook it (cover with lid ,if the mixture is too dry).
- If the mixture is little watery.cook it uncovered.
- It takes 45-50 minutes for the dal to be cooked and the mixture becomes dry.
- When you can see the usili crumbly ,its all done.
- I am being lazy to steam the toor dal mixture in idly pot. This method saves 20 minutes of your xooking time than the above mentioned method.
- If you are steaming the mixture it takes little more oil than i have mentioned here.
- You can follow the same procedure and do with beetroot and banana flower too.
